Welcome, like-hearted Seeker! I believe it’s really important to get to know any potential mentor or teacher, especially for something as personal as Shamanic and spiritual practice. Let me introduce myself! (“Official” bio below.)
I was born and raised in Portland, OR, and now live just outside the city on sacred, forested land. The pacific northwest is near and dear to my heart, and I spend a lot of time outside enjoying the epic nature. Athena, my rescue pup, accompanies me on most of my adventures.
As a kid, I always loved animals, nature and magic. All of my favorite books were about any (or all) of these topics. I loved reading indigenous folk tales and mythology from around the world, fantastical stories and heroine adventure epics. When I read stories about sorceresses healing people with magic, I started practicing "healing spells" on my diabetic dog.
In 2003, while in high school, I took my first Shamanic training class and I felt like I was home. Shamanic journey work made so much sense to me and felt effortless. It felt like it gave me a language and context for things I already knew to be true, and for every one thing I learned in the class, I remembered ten more.
I continued to pursue Shamanic training and workshops whenever I could. That first class and most of the subsequent trainings I found were from the Lakota lineage, and a few trainings here and there from the Makah people and likely others. As a teenager, I wasn't fully aware yet of the importance of knowing and honoring the lineages and especially respecting indigenous teachings and sovereignty. I am grateful for all of my teachers over the years and am committed to honoring the lineages, and practicing ethical shamanism.
In 2006, while in university, I began my training in energy healing. I was trained in Reiki I and II, and began studying energetic anatomy and pranic healing. This coincided with my academic studies in biology. My research projects for classes usually reflected that intersection: I remember my cell bio professor helping me photograph acupuncture needles under a microscope. Unfortunately, my proposal to study the effect of consciousness and energy healing on the growth of plants was vetoed as "unquantifiable." Instead, I did my undergrad research in hummingbird foraging behavior in Costa Rica.
In 2008, I was initiated as a Reiki Master. During this time, I started expanding a lot into my intuitive channel and psychic gifts. I started practicing mediumship, and people came to me for readings for their animals. I set up my business at this point because people kept wanting to pay me for something I wanted to do anyway, so it seemed like a good idea to make it official.
In 2009, right after I graduated university, I met my Shaman mentor, Dagmar, and have been working with her ever since. She helped me exponentially deepen my shamanic practice, awaken even more gifts and trust myself as a healer. She initiated me into my primary Shamanic lineage, which comes from the Shaman clan Baksa of what is now Hungary. My additional Shamanic apprenticeship comes from the Celtic people and horse tribes who traveled across Europe.
I lived in Spain 2009-2010 (because, why not?) where I had a beautiful time hiking around, eating seafood, perfecting my Spanish and making friends. During that time, people kept reaching out to me for sessions over Skype, so my Shamanic healing and mediumship work continued. After moving back to the US in 2010, I dug in and began to develop my practice. I offered Shamanic healing and mediumship sessions for people and animals, began teaching Reiki and continued to work with my mentor to expand my Shamanic work. Eventually I started teaching Shamanic workshops as well.
Alchemy started showing up for me in 2016, so I leaned in and started learning everything I could. In 2018 I started training others in Alchemy. In addition to Shamanism, this is my other core lineage, and the two play together beautifully.
During the last 10+ years, I have continued my education and training (see the long list below), and developed my own teachings and Shamanic mentorship offerings. I have now officially been studying and practicing in this field for 20+ years, in business as a practitioner for 17 years, and I still feel like an enthusiastic kid who just loves animals, magic and being outside.
Today, my practice looks very different because it's fully integrated into my lifestyle and my identity. I am a firm believer in "functional spirituality" so all of my practices translate into my lived experience, and I support people in their own versions of that. My values as a practitioner and a spiritual teacher come from my lifelong love of nature, magic, travel, curiosity and transformation. The resume of all of my trainings and education kind of matters but also kind of doesn't, because everything I learned ultimately supported me in coming home to myself and to spirit, and that is the most powerful spiritual teaching of all.

Michelle Hawk began practicing Shamanism in 2003 at age 15. Her lineages come from Hungarian and Celtic shamanism. A naturally gifted psychic and intuitive channel, Michelle’s work with Shamanism, Alchemy, and multiple certifications as a Master Healer allow her to offer the deepest level of transformational work. She mentors and trains practitioners in Shamanism, Alchemy and the healing arts, and helps people master their intuitive gifts and magical birthright. As a Shaman, biologist and passionate naturalist, her practice is rooted in deep reverence for life and the wisdom of Gaia, scientific principles of ecology and environmentalism, and genuine appreciation and enthusiasm for nature.

In addition to her experience and certification in various healing modalities, Michelle's credentials include a degree in biology (specializing in animal behavior and ecology) and Spanish. Her scientific education gives her a great familiarity with anatomy and physiology, biomechanics and biochemistry, allowing her to easily collaborate with primary care physicians, body workers and naturopaths to support holistic treatment plans. Her fluency in Spanish enables her to offer her healing work to ESL and Spanish-speaking students and clients.
