Shamanic Dragon Healing Transmission

Remember a few weeks ago when I invited you to the 3rd annual Dragon Thunder summit?

Well, it went SO great and the replay of my talk is available!

(And by “my talk,” I mean the Sapphire Dragons offering a channeled transmission and a blessing through me as a medium.)

Just — wow. Channeling the Dragons is always very powerful, and this was no exception.

This transmission introduces the Sapphire Dragons and their unique lineage, aligned with the Sapphire Flame and the Blue Ray. Through my practice of incorporation mediumship, the Sapphire Dragons share teachings on the keys of creation through intuition, discernment, and the energetic feedback loop symbolized by the Ouroboros. They offer a blessing of the flame and speak of their connection to the Order of the Blue Rose, emphasizing integrity, truth, and creative power in co-creation with humanity.

Shamanic Healing Retreat in Portland, Oregon

I saw an Instagram post this morning that brought up a surprising range of feelings: amusement, enjoyment, sadness and *facepalm.*

The post was by eco-activist drag queen Pattie Gonia, whose platform and content I enjoy and recommend. Here’s what she said in the reel (slightly paraphrased):

What’s coming up for you?

I’ve got complicated feelings about it. But here’s the positive and optimistic side:

For people who aspire to a more outdoorsy, magical or nature-based lifestyle but may feel unsure of where to start or need a boost of inspiration, this could help be a nudge in that direction.

Develop Your Shamanic Intuition with Michelle Hawk in Portland, Oregon

I could hardly believe what I saw yesterday and I bet you’ll be blown away as well!

In terms of obvious signs and Shamanic omens, this one was flashing neon.

Here we go:

I was working on my computer for a few hours yesterday afternoon. My desk sits right in the window so I have a great view.

Around 4:30pm, I saw a massive bird fly by and land on the ground about 20 feet away. It was a Great Horned Owl!

It saw me move to look at it, so it stared at me through the window. We watched each other for a few moments, then it bent down to start eating something.

In the trees behind the owl, I saw a flash of bright yellow, and realized it was a male Western Tanager! These gorgeous birds are sunshine-yellow with neon red heads. I had seen one once a few weeks ago that flew by exactly at an auspicious moment to answer a question. This bird was flitting around in the trees, alarm calling at the owl.

The owl picked up its head and I saw it was eating a black snake. It was on the ground for about five minutes, alternating between eating the snake and pausing to look directly at me through the window. The tanager was in the background the whole time.

When it had finished eating, the owl flew up to sit on a low branch nearby. It eventually shuffled up the branch and out of view, so I went back to working (after sending excited voice notes and photos to a few witchy friends).

This is the part that made it even more incredible:

Then, around 6pm, the same Great Horned Owl flew down to the same area AGAIN and ate ANOTHER snake! (There was no tanager this time.)

I could hardly believe it. This felt like a once-in-a-blue-moon sighting that I saw TWICE within 90 minutes. (And of course I promptly sent all-caps follow up texts to witchy friends.)

The owl flew off out of view, but I could hear birds alarm calling out in the backyard so I knew it was still nearby. Athena and I went out shortly afterwards to look around, and we saw it fly off into the forest as we approached.

And while this is an incredible nature sighting/bird story —

For those of us who speak the language of Spirit, are attuned to the mysteries, receive Shamanic visions and magical transmissions, it’s so much more than that.

Visitations like this are always layered with meaning, inviting us to quiet our analytical minds, suspend disbelief and open ourselves to the infinite intelligence of the Universe.

Receiving communications from the natural world and the spirit realm has always been part of the Shamanic “job description,” as is interpreting them through meditation and reflection.

My Shamanic “great grandfather”, Joska, (my teacher’s teacher’s teacher) told stories of his training as a young boy, when people in the village would go to the Shaman (his teacher, Tamas) seeking help with questions. Tamas would pose the question to a large, very old birch tree, listen to the wind rustling through the leaves, and receive an answer. According to Joska, the answer always turned out to be true.

Listening to rustling leaves is a very old method of Shamanic communication. Some people receive messages from the wind or shapes in the fire. I receive many communications through animals, particularly birds. (And right at this moment, a Raven started calling outside, haha.)

These communications are available to anyone who learns how to receive them and can enter a trance state to open the channel of communication. (Even in the case of sudden, unexpected messengers like I received twice yesterday. I was immediately able to drop into a trance state and connect with the transmission.)

Books About Shamanism from Michelle Hawk in Portland, Oregon

People often ask me for recommendations of books about Shamanism, so I thought I would share a roundup of my favorites with you.

… just kidding! I don’t have any favorite books *about* Shamanism. Here’s why:

Books *about* Shamanism are most often written from either an academic perspective (anthropological analysis, descriptions and observations of practices), or a how-to perspective (step by step instructions of how to “do” a Shamanic practice). In both cases, there is usually a strong flavor of intellectualizing, logicking, as well as a degree of separation that places the reader in the role of observer or recipe-follower.

Reading a book *about* Shamanism is like reading a book about how to learn to ride a bike. Maybe you would learn some interesting history and background about bikes and study the theory of physics. But it would be kind of useless to you in the practicality of actually riding a bike.

Reading a book about Shamanism might be intellectually interesting, but it’s kind of useless to you in practicality.

Shamanism as a practice is all about relationship. It’s about immediacy, intimacy and immersion.

Shamanism is an animistic practice (the belief that all things are alive and connected through that universal aliveness) and a mediumistic practice (active communication and relationship with the spiritual forces all around us).

A book can’t teach you about being in relationship with the life force in all things. A book won’t prepare you for what it feels like to connect with powerful spirits. You must experience those things directly to truly know and understand.

While I don’t have any favorite books *about* Shamanism, I do have some other recommendations:

When I was a child, my favorite books were all folktales about talking animals, magical plants, sacred springs of healing water, elemental spirits and deities. I loved stories where a young person went on some kind of journey or quest, and met wise allies to guide them on their path. The humans in these stories who showed disrespect or disregard for the wisdom of nature always suffered the consequences, and those humans who listened and respected the Earth and her children were supported.

I read creation myths such as How Raven Stole the Sun and the legend of Quetzalcoatl. I read stories of gods and goddesses from around the world, these personified forces of nature with magical powers and unique wisdoms. I read fictional stories set in our world about young people who lived closely in nature, such as Julie of the Wolves and My Side of the Mountain.

Stories and folktales like this help us access our own mythopoetic consciousness. They help us enter into the liminal spaces through imagination, beyond the confines of logic. They help us readily accept a reality where animals talk and the unseen realms are very real. They teach us about principles of respect, right relation, and honoring the laws and wisdom of Earth and non-human consciousness. They teach us energetic dynamics of creation and destruction, destiny and sovereignty, agreements and contracts, death and rebirth, wounding and healing, wisdom, initiation and actualization.

These are all Shamanic principles.

This is the traditional style of wisdom transmission: storytelling and direct experience. Receiving wisdom teachings through stories invites us to imagine ourselves as the protagonist, to see ourselves in the myth, and opens the door to our subconscious wisdom and connection. And direct experience and contact with the mysteries is how we anchor that wisdom into our embodied consciousness.

So instead of reading books *about* Shamanism, I always invite people to go out in nature. Talk to the trees. Allow yourself to daydream and imagine. Read animistic folktales. Why do I practice Shamanism?

Why do I practice Shamanism?

(And why you may want to, if you are called to it.)

I don’t practice Shamanism for my clients. I practice it first and foremost for Life.

I practice Shamanism because I love Life. By that I don’t only mean my life specifically, I mean capital-L Life itself. I love that Life exists.

I love that consciousness has manifested in the incarnate. I love that so many different bioforms have evolved over millennia to cooperate and live in concert with each other. I love that plants eat sunlight and trees sing to each other through the mycelial network. I love that elephant matriarchs remember for decades where to find water and pass this knowledge down to their daughters and granddaughters. I love the song of the red-winged blackbird. I love that hawthorn thorns eventually grow into branches, and what starts out as sharp and protective evolves into a flowering wand that bears abundant fruit.

I love that Life exists, and I am so grateful that I get to be a part of it.

I practice Shamanism to be awake in my life, to celebrate Life and to collaborate with this grand symphony of aliveness all around me every day.

I practice Shamanism as a student and steward of Life. I study the cycles. I study the darkness, hibernation and death. I study decay, rotting logs, and bones left after a cougar kill and scavenging coyotes. I study the explosion of budding flowers, eagles flirting, squirrels fortifying their nests. I study the rise and fall of the river. I study the movement of the stars and the planets, and the pattern of wheeling vultures.

I study Life so that I may collaborate with it, move in alignment with the flow of creation and be a harmonious contribution to something so, so much bigger than me: Spirit. The Great Unknowable. Thou. Life.

By studying Life, we learn its flow and rhythm. We learn what expands and supports and generates Life, and what contracts or restricts it. We learn to feel and collaborate with this flow of Life in our bodies, our health, our relationships, our daily experience. Healing and growth is the study and practice of Life-generating worldview and behaviors, and of course that offers a huge personal benefit to us.

But that’s only a tiny fraction of the whole. And the longer I practice Shamanism (now over 20 years), the more I feel absolutely certain that it’s not about us and our personal experience at all.

Something beautiful comes from de-centering the self. This inherently goes against all of the conditioning and foundation of modern, western culture (especially in the US) which is based on individualism and, to be brutally honest, this weird fetishization of selfishness. My rights. Look out for #1. Selfies. If it’s not on social media, it didn’t happen. Endless navel-gazing and pathologizing and self-diagnosing and therapizing and making it all about me, me, me.

How lonely. How small. How inherently blind.

But what happens when we de-center ourselves? What happens when we truly embrace that if I am sovereign, it means that all beings are sovereign? What happens when we remember that if I am a unique and special expression of consciousness, it means that all beings are unique and special expressions of consciousness? What happens when we believe that if I am devoted to cultivating life in myself, it means I am devoted to cultivating life for all beings? What happens when we make our Earthwalk into a prayer of gratitude and generosity to Life?

How connected we become. How expansive. How loving.

De-centering the Self helps us remember that consciousness is living itself through us. Life is living through us, just as it is living through all things. It helps us to take responsibility for what we are personally accountable for and to surrender burdens that do not belong to us. It helps us to be generous. It helps us to remember that we belong. You belong to Life, and Life loves you.

I practice Shamanism because I love Life, and I love that I get to be a part of Life, but even more than that, I want Life to thrive. I want so deeply with every part of my being to devote every day to honoring and advocating for the sovereignty of all beings. I am so excited to live in this world and cultivate relationships with forms of Life–people, plants, animals, mountains, elements–so that I can know Spirit in as many ways as possible. I practice Shamanism because I know truly that by devoting myself to Life, and collaborating with Life, and studying Life, it benefits me, and everyone around me, and all beings on Earth, and the Earth herself.

I practice Shamanism because it is the best way I know how to love myself, and you, and Thou, Life.

I cannot give you your why. I cannot make you fall in love with Life. I cannot give you the key that will make you excited to wake up every day and participate in this gorgeous symphony. That is for you to discover, if you haven’t already.

Shamanic Healing with Owl Spirit in Portland, Oregon

Wowza, Owl is coming through strongly! You know that feeling when Spirit is practically slapping you in the face with a repeat message? Yeah, I thought so.

If you’ve been following my work for a while, you’ve already heard me tell the stories of an owl attacking me and offering me a deep medicine initiation. You’ve heard the story of my powerful dreams and visions with Owl, and how this healing energy comes through in my Shamanic healing work with clients. Owl began getting my attention one evening last week, when I heard 2 (or possibly 3) Great Horned Owls calling back and forth for 15 minutes straight. They were somewhere close by in the forest in front of my house near Portland, OR. At the time, I just enjoyed it and didn’t tune in more deeply.

Two days later, I was driving home after offering an Alchemy teaching/wisdom transmission, and suddenly a massive owl flew right over my car on the dark highway. I swerved slightly and recovered, but then forgot about it (until this morning).

Yesterday morning, Athena and I were hiking in the forest near our home and we walked right under a Great Horned Owl sitting on a low branch. I only saw it because I turned around to look at Athena right as it took off, and landed slightly ahead of us on a higher branch. I paused by its tree and offered gratitude and appreciation. As I turned away to keep walking, it flew off.

This morning on my way home from the park with Athena, a Barred Owl flew right in front of my car (that’s when I remembered the owl that flew over my car a few nights ago).

Message received. It was time to journey with Owl and see why Spirit was trying to get my attention.

So this morning I journeyed with Owl. And as Owl medicine does, it brought my attention to some things that are uncomfortable for me to see, but that hold the opportunity for profound healing. Owl offered guidance related to one of my current growth edges and helped me see where I have been resistant. And as Owl medicine always reminds me, “It is safe to see in the darkness.”

I received some powerful messages and healing transmissions that I’ll be reflecting on and integrating. Thank you, Owl!

Shamanic Ritual to Heal the Land

A sea of cut branches intermingles with mud churned up by colossal machines, the tracks of their tread gouging the earth in wide, deep scars.

The crowns of trees and poles deemed “too thin to be useful” spray in chaotic disorder as evidence of the careless destruction.

It is carnage.

But the part that truly makes my stomach turn are the three piles of logs left uncollected. Over 100 trees that were killed with the intent to harvest for lumber, but their bodies were simply left in a pile.

They killed more than they needed. And they left the rest to rot.

This is the scene currently in the forest near my home, after the loggers came through and “thinned” the woods in January and February. But this same disregard for Earth and right relationship with resources is playing out everywhere.

This is what happens when we live in a society with a deeply ingrained culture of scarcity consciousness, mindless consumption and instant gratification.

When we are removed from the cyclical flow of life, we forget where our resources come from.

When we engage with money as credit cards and digital bank accounts, we have no embodied relationship with true wealth.

When we can go to Home Depot and buy lumber for a home project, we forget the forest it came from.

We never walked through the woods and witnessed all the birds, deer and abundant life before the logging. We never watched the canopy shake and heard the ground shudder as a massive tree was felled. We never saw the piles of logs left over because someone cut first and calculated later.

Unnecessary destruction and loss of life.

Our relationship with abundance, fertility and embodied wealth goes beyond our personal healing: it is imperative for our collective healing and evolution of human consciousness.

The way our society (in general) lives without regard for Earth and right relationship with non-human life is completely unsustainable.

And it is deeply wounding all those who perpetuate that system, even if they don’t realize it.

Shamanic Past Life Wisdom Retrieval: I Remember Atlantis

I remember Atlantis.

I remember the fall most vividly, but I remember some of the circumstances and power struggles that lead up to the devastating end.

I remember soaring crystal pillars and smooth floors that hummed with power. I remember the beauty of the temples and the elegant architecture of precious stone.

I remember my studies as a young priestess, my growing awareness of different factions and philosophies, and the unease that grew as I progressed on my path of service.

I remember when I was initiated into the role of high priestess, my mentor counseled me to be very careful. She told me to remember the teachings I had received in the right use of power, and to use the influence of my position to protect the safety of my people.

I remember walking through a vast hallway when I was suddenly brought to my knees by discordant sounds screeching through my bones. I covered my ears in pain, but the sounds were inaudible vibrations ricocheting through me.

I got up and ran into a massive room with towering crystal columns and giant orbs that crackled and sparked. Something was very wrong. Two of my priestess sisters were already there, and the three of us took our places together to drop into a trance and assess what was wrong with the energetic architecture of the grid.

I felt it immediately. I saw where someone had tried to magnify an output of power from one of the generator stations, and the entire grid of Atlantis was fluctuating wildly as it tried to compensate for the imbalance.

I heard a deep cracking sound, and opened my eyes to see fractures running the entire length of the crystal columns, all the way up to the orbs at the top.

My heart broke. My sisters and I stood and raised our hands to try to offer what support we could in one final attempt to stabilize the grid. I remember singing cords of light into the glowing crystal pillars.

But the rumbling started, and soon after, the waters came crashing in, and Atlantis was no more.

This memory surfaced many years ago in the early days of my awakening. It served as an important part of me claiming my own power and integrating the remembered wisdom teachings from other incarnations into my current life and service.

And honestly, I had kind of forgotten about it until February, when I received a healing session from my Shaman mentor and it all came flooding back. (Along with a memory of the fall of ancient Sumer, but that’s another story.)

The heartbreak and despair I felt from the fall of Atlantis is rippling through the timeline to the heartbreak I feel watching the misuse of power and political upheaval now. I am once again a wisdom keeper who has pledged her life in spiritual service, and I am trying my best to support my community and protect the right balance of power to prevent the fall of another civilization.

It all feels a little too familiar.

But it also feels different.

This time feels different, because it’s not just a small group of wisdom keepers who are trying to hold the balance. This time, it’s much more out the in the open. The awareness of that imbalance is spreading, and more and more people are standing up to protect the right use of power.

I have lived many lifetimes of service in the mysteries. I’ve lived through the collapse of multiple ancient and powerful civilizations. Part of my practice has been to draw upon the experience of other incarnations and to integrate that knowledge, so I can move forward from the fully empowered wholeness of my eternal spirit and all the wisdom I have gained through all my lifetimes.

I am once again feeling some deep inner re-structuring, and it’s a bit uncomfortable, but also feels very powerful and clarifying.

And I know other people are remembering powerful mystery teachings, too.

This is a time when we are all being called upon to embody the knowledge not only of our current incarnations and the teachings we have received this time around, but to implement the hard-earned wisdom, codes and spiritual technology we carry from all of our many lifetimes.

I feel strongly that we are living through a very powerful portal, where we get to put this wisdom to work and achieve different outcomes than we have in the past.

But it requires courage, deep alignment and skillful application of this wisdom. It requires us to not only remember and feel the echos of our other incarnations, but to integrate the wisdom codes and transmute them into our empowered actions in this Earthwalk.

Hi! I’m Michelle Hawk— Shaman, Alchemist, master healer and spiritual mentor. I’ve been studying and practicing Shamanism and other modalities since 2003.

When we come to the land in devotion and prayer, we offer healing to the land.

And through our devotion, we receive healing.

When we approach the Earth in all her majestic wisdom and attune to her mysteries and desires, we serve Gaia’s will.

And through that service, our own will is purified.

When we celebrate life and the fertile creative power of this living temple planet, and we offer our heartfelt prayers in devotion to life, we amplify this abundant aliveness in the world.

1:1 Shamanic Healing, Mentorship and Retreats

I’m finally poking my head up here after a very intense magical portal shift. Phew! Time for an update and an invitation.

Here’s the update:

Last weekend was the graduation retreat for my I AM Alchemy students. During a total lunar eclipse. And my current cohort of Alchemy apprentices began that Sunday. It was an intense weekend.

I am so happy for my students in their fantastic accomplishment! They persevered through a deep dive year of apprenticeship in the mysteries, which is both a beautiful and challenging endeavor.

The next cohort that began just over a week ago is launching into the crucible, and I am so excited for them as well! It is my sincere joy to guide seekers through the fires of transformation.

But Alchemy isn’t the only kind of support I offer. Since the course is underway for the year, I’ll be shifting gears to offer more work through 1:1 shamanic healing, training and mentorship.
